Laura Wallett, of South Elgin, was appointed to the office of town clerk Wednesday by the Elgin Township Board of Trustees on Wednesday. She will serve out the remainder of the term through April 2013.
The seat was vacated in December by Kurt Kojzarek, who was elected in November to the Kane County Board. Kojzarek, is a Republican, so by law, he had to be replaced by a Republican.
The board had 60 days from Kojzarek's resignation to appointment a new clerk.
Wallett ran for auditor in the Republican primary this year. That position eventually was won by Terry Hunt.
