Silverman turned in a strong performance at last week’s Charger Invitational, including a career-high 23 points Friday against Buffalo Grove.
St. Charles North senior Alex Silverman was a bright spot last week as the North Stars struggled at Dundee-Crown’s Charger Invitational. Silverman’s quality marksmanship was highlighted Friday when she tied a career high with six 3-point makes against Buffalo Grove in setting a new career high of 23 points. Silverman’s hot week earned her St. Charles Bank & Trust-Kane County Chronicle Athlete of the Week honors. She touched on her performance with Chronicle sports editor Jay Schwab. The following is an edited transcript:
Has this been one of the hottest shooting stretches that you’ve had?
Yeah. Lately I’ve just been in rhythm and luckily, they’re going in.
When you’re shooting do you think much about some of your fundamental keys, or do you try not to think about your shot?
No, I try not to think about it because when I do think about it, it gets more in my head. I just have to have good form and hope it goes in, and that’s about it.
Even when you’re playing well, is it hard to enjoy when the wins aren’t coming the way you’d like?
Yeah, it always [stinks] losing but you just have to forget about it and get the next one, and keep working hard in practice trying your best out there, and [wins] are going to come.
Which class are you most looking forward to next semester?
I really like my stats class just because math kind of comes easy to me. It’s realistic and I enjoy that class.
Do you have a favorite sports movie?
I really like the movie “He Got Game” with Ray Allen.
