DEKALB – Hampshire still has the Marmion boys basketball team’s number.

The Cadets fell to the Whip-Purs for the second time at the Chuck Dayton Holiday Tournament, this time in the third place game as Hampshire prevailed Friday, 50-44.

“It was a good game,” Marmion coach Ryan Paradise said. “Just unusual you play a team twice at the same tournament. It was like AAU.”

Hampshire beat Marmion in the first round of pool play, 63-60.

Paradise said the Cadets (5-10) had a chilly night shooting the ball aside from Mike Sheehan, who led Marmion with 15 points.

Pontiac Holiday Tournament: St. Charles North rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to beat Peoria Manual, 63-60, in the late game to remain alive in tournament play. Quinten Payne scored 26 points and Alec Goetz added 15 for the North Stars (8-5).

North went 23 of 25 from the free throw line while Manual went 5 of 7.

North lost to West Aurora, 76-52, in an afternoon game. The North Stars were led by 18 points from Payne.

North is now 2-1 at the tournament and will face the winner of this morning’s Bloomington-Joliet West game for fifth place at 6 p.m. tonight.

Proviso West Tournament: Wheaton Academy was ousted from the consolation bracket with a 74-61 loss to Crespi Carmelite (Calif.).

The Warriors (10-3), who went 1-2 at the tournament, were led by Collin Roy (14 points), Gordon Behr (10 points) and Brandon Ruggles (13 rebounds, seven points).

Glenbard West Tournament: St. Francis knocked off Timothy Christian, 50-38, to improve to 9-2.
