SUGAR GROVE – Several new businesses – including a restaurant and a tanning salon – have opened or soon will open in Sugar Grove.
Shari Baum, executive director of the Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce, said Monday that the Irish pub Runway to Galway had been scheduled to open at the end of December on Route 30. Anderson Fitness Studio recently opened on Black Walnut Court and Couture Tan opened recently along Route 47.
Walgreens also is among the village’s newest businesses. The store opened Nov. 9 along Route 47.
Baum said Chamber of Commerce leaders are encouraged by all the new business activity.
“Of course the Chamber of Commerce is very excited to see new businesses in Sugar Grove,” she said. “It benefits both the business community and residents. We always encourage residents to shop local.”
Village President Sean Michels said 2012 was a good year for the village’s business community. He said after many years of showing interest, Jimmy John’s finally settled in Sugar Grove in the spring.
“It sounds like 2013 is going to be a good year, as well,” he said.
American Heartland Bank also is slated to move to a new Sugar Grove location and make its existing location on Heartland Drive exclusively a mortgage division. Michels said bank leaders plan to build a 5,000-square-foot facility on the southwest corner of Wheeler Road and Route 47. Construction could start as early as spring.
Michels said the village is anticipating the opening of a Rush-Copley Medical Center on the west side of Route 47. He said the community care clinic should open early this year. Baum said Cadence Health also recently purchased a building in Sugar Grove, but she didn’t know what the company’s plans were.
“There have been a lot of new businesses,” Michels said. “It’s been positive. Hopefully it improves the quality of life for residents in Sugar Grove, so they don’t have to drive far for amenities.”
He said he hopes to draw in more businesses by completing the interchange at Interstate 88 and Route 47.
