GENEVA – The Geneva wrestling team placed fourth out of 15 teams on Saturday at the 34th annual Newbill Invitational.

The Vikings had three first-place winners, most of any school in the field. Brad Martens (120 pounds), Tony Castelvecchi (170) and Jake Boser (182 pounds) were the Vikings' champs.

Lake Zurich (164 points) won the team title, while Carmel and Stillman Valley (139.5 apiece) tied for second place.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Batavia 57, Clark 33:
At Batavia, Batavia jumped on Clark early and substituted liberally en route to winning its fifth game in six tries. Fifteen Batavia players scored on the night.

The Bulldogs (7-8) picked up the Clark game when Proviso East dropped Batavia from its schedule shortly after the season started due to a scheduling conflict.

Rock Falls Shootout: Aurora Christian fell to Providence St. Mel, 69-59. Ryan Suttle (15 points) and Haydyn McNelis (13) led the Eagles (9-6).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Evanston 57, St. Charles East 33:
At Evanston, East (10-8) arrived late after a bus miscommunication and struggled once it arrived, absorbing a nonconference thrashing.

East coach Lori Drumtra called the game "probably a good wakeup call."

"They're a very athletic team, very quick and they get their hands on a lot of balls," Drumtra said. " ... It's been a while since we've played a team that quick."

Aurora Christian 53, Paw Paw 38:
Alyssa Andersen scored 22 points as Aurora Christian (12-6) dominated in nonconference play.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS
