BURLINGTON – The Burlington Central girls basketball team thumped Genoa-Kingston, 55-19, on Friday to remain unbeaten in Big Northern Conference East play.
Central (17-4, 8-0 BNC East) was coming off its most tense conference game to date, Tuesday’s 42-32, double-overtime victory at Rockford Christian.
“The girls played well,” Rockets coach Mark Smith said. “They weren’t happy with how they came out at the start of the game the other night, so we started out strong and put a lot of pressure on them to get ahead early.”
Alison Colby and Kayla Ross led a balanced Rockets’ attack with 11 points apiece. Shelby Holt added 10 points for the Rockets, who have won eight of their past 10 games.
Montini 78, Aurora Central Catholic 38: At Lombard, ACC (9-11, 1-7 Suburban Christian Conference Blue) stumbled against the traditional power.
Natalie Durosky tallied 11 points for the Chargers.
“Even thought the score was not good, my kids played very, very hard,” ACC coach Mark Fitzgerald said. “[The Broncos] were hitting all their 3s. They’re a good team.”
St. Edward 74, Burlington Central 65: At Elgin, Central lost in nonconference play.
Marmion 30, Clovis Buchanan (Calif.) 18: At Aurora, Marmion held on for a victory against its out-of-state foe after building a 20-0 lead after the dual’s first six bouts. Jake Field scored a 22-7 technical fall at 126 pounds during the run. Later, heavyweight Alex Fritz tallied a 16-5 major decision.
