Flu activity remains high in Kane County
Although the number of flu cases at emergency rooms across Kane County continues to drop, flu activity remains above average.
The Kane County Health Department released data Friday showing about 5.47 percent of hospital emergency room visits between Jan. 6 and 12 were for flulike illnesses, down from about 7.47 percent the previous week. But health department spokesman Tom Schlueter said flu activity remains high for this point in the season, noting that five is the baseline number.
The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting flu activity across the state. The department reported that 3.7 percent of hospital emergency room visits between Jan. 6 and 12 were for flulike illnesses, compared with 4.8 percent the previous week.
