Man’s death near ballpark ruled suicide

GENEVA – The death of a 43-year-old Geneva man whose body was found in a tree near the Philip B. Elfstrom Events Center on Saturday has been ruled a suicide.

Laurie Metanchuk, community affairs director for the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, said forest preserve police closed their investigation over the weekend.

Fifth Third Bank Ballpark is in the events center.

Kane County Coroner Rob Russell said Tuesday that his office would conduct a toxicology report on the body, but he did not know whether an autopsy would be done.

Kane County Forest Preserve Police discovered the body after someone on a passing train reported seeing a body in a tree.
