Saturday's Prep Roundup: St. Charles co-op wins UEC Girls Gymnastics title

ROSELLE – The St. Charles East co-op girls gymnastics team won the Upstate Eight Conference Championships on Saturday, scoring a team total of 144.775 points.

Geneva, led by all-around winner Ashley Puff, placed second among the seven teams with 141.5. The Vikings' Dominique Brognia was first on the bars (9.35).

St. Charles had the No. 2 (Rachel Dugan) and No. 3 (Sidney Copeland) placers in the all-around. Dugan won the vault in 9.45, just ahead of Geneva's Megan Beitzel.

St. Charles' Jesi Ortiz (9.5) edged teammates Kelly Gorniak and Copeland to win the floor exercise.

Batavia placed seventh with a score of 126.7.

BOYS BOWLING

IHSA State Tournament:
At St. Clair Bowl in O'Fallon, St. Charles East's Alex Garza finished 45th among individual qualifiers after rolling 2,518 over his 12 games on Friday and Saturday. His high game on Saturday was a 242.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Kaneland 60, Sterling 33:
At Maple Park, Matt Limbrunner scored 22 points and Ty Carlson added 10 to pace Kaneland (12-6) in the Northern Illinois Big 12 crossover game.

Aurora Central Catholic 57, Kenwood 45: At Aurora, Phil Schuetz scored 17 points and Sean Harreld added 12 to lift ACC to a nonconference win.

Moline Shootout:
Senior Andrew Kimball scored 21 points to help St. Francis knock off Rock Island Alleman, 57-39, as part of a tripleheader at Wharton Fieldhouse in Moline. The Spartans improve to 15-3 overall.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

St. Charles North 67, Elgin 39:
At Elgin, Nicole Davidson scored 21 points and 12 players scored in the game for the North Stars (8-16, 4-7 UEC River).

Sterling 52, Kaneland 40:
At Maple Park, Allyson O'Herron scored 18 points and Ashley Prost had 10 as Kaneland (12-10) started slow and dropped the NI Big 12 crossover.

Aurora Christian 51, St. Francis 46:
At Aurora, Alyssa Andersen scored 24 points to power Aurora Christian (15-8, 5-3 SCC Gold) to the win. Natasha Brown had six points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles.

Kate Slattery scored 22 points to lead St. Francis.

Aurora Central Catholic 51, Guerin 50: At Aurora, ACC rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to pull out the SCC crossover win. Senior Alex DeCraene scored 19 points to pace the Chargers (11-11).

Burlington Central 56, Richmond-Burton 34:
At Richmond, Shelby Holt scored 21 points and Kayla Ross added 16 as the Rockets dominated the Big Northern Conference East contest.

BOYS SWIMMING

St. Charles East 97, Guilford 63:
At Rockford, East's 200-yard medley relay team of Will Shanel, Austin Muelschlegel, Alec Carnell and Taylor Nunnery got the Saints off to a good start by winning in 1:45.69.
