GENEVA – Two people are charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft of items from a purse in a store, according to Geneva police.
Cornelius D. McCrary, 19, of the 1300 block of South Ada Street, Chicago, and Miranda M. Grocesley, 21, of the 300 block of Old Indian Trail, Aurora, were charged Friday. Grocesley is being held in the Kane County Jail on $3,000 bond. McCrary was released without a bond. Both are scheduled to appear in court Feb. 7.
The felony burglary charge carries a penalty of three to seven years in prison and fines of up to $25,000. The misdemeanor theft charge carries a penalty of up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.
According to police reports, McCrary and Grocesley were part of a group of five who went into Tilly’s clothing store, 602 Commons Drive. While others distracted the store clerk, McCrary and Grocesley went into a back room and took several items out of a purse, including a cellphone valued at $400, according to reports. They left with the others, driving out of the parking lot, and they were stopped by police.
Upon searching McCrary, police found five stolen credit cards in his pants pocket and the stolen cellphone in the car’s glove box, according to police reports.
