Gymnastics regionals heating up

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

The St. Charles co-op gymnastics team will become the second Chronicle-area squad to compete in IHSA regionals when it travels to York Thursday night.

St. Charles is just a few weeks removed from registering a program-best team score of 146.8, eclipsing the previous best of 146.2 set in 1998.

"Our biggest goal right now is to go to state," Jesi Ortiz, a senior at St. Charles North, said recently. "And, you know, we haven't dropped yet. We just keep increasing our score."

On Tuesday, Batavia vaulters Megan McGee (fourth) and Courtney Glassman (fifth) moved on from the Glenbard West Regional to the Feb. 5 sectional that also will be held at West. Senior Sarah Ganster advanced in the all-around.

Geneva is set to host its own regional Friday. Any St. Charles and Geneva qualifiers will join the Batavia group at the Glenbard West Sectional.
