Amanda Hilton made a college soccer commitment to Nebraska but the St. Charles East junior continues to demonstrate she’s no slouch in basketball, either. Hilton, the St. Charles Bank & Trust-Kane County Chronicle Athlete of the Week, torched Batavia for 31 points Saturday, including six 3-pointers. Hilton touched base with sports editor Jay Schwab about her big night. The following is an edited transcript:
What was working for you against Batavia?
I think it was a team effort. Everyone was contributing in that game and we passed the ball really well, and our shots were falling, which was great. And we were all really confident, which helped a lot.
Have you noticed being targeted more by defenses after Paige (Jordan) left the team, and how have you adjusted to that attention?
I have noticed that. I trust my team a lot and with being able to come up with a lot of plays [when] I’m guarded heavily. I trust them to get me open, also. … We still play the way we do.
When it comes to homework, are you pretty good at working ahead or are you more of a procrastinator?
I do work ahead. Sometimes I tend to procrastinate, but I try my best to get my work done before the night before it is due.
Have you had a favorite teacher at East, and why?
Yeah, I really like Mr. Collins. He was my geometry honors teacher last year. He just really prepared me in the class. He made it fun, and I felt like I could talk to him about everything. He was always supportive about basketball and soccer and asked me about that. He’s just a great teacher.
