Gymnastics waiting game still at-large

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

The girls gymnastics teams from Glenbard West (143.3) and Geneva (142.825) entered Thursday in solid position to earn at-large state tournament berths following the Stevenson Sectional.

Their waits will end with the conclusion of that competition later tonight.

St. Charles (143.775) edged the Hilltoppers and Vikings to win Tuesday's Glenbard West Sectional and advance to the Feb. 15-16 state meet at Palatine. Still, four at-large berths are awarded at the conclusion of the state's four sectionals, and Glenbard West and Geneva had the second- and third-best scores heading into competition at Stevenson.

The Glenbard West Sectional was just the second of the fourth held, creating a waiting game for certain teams and individuals.

"Some people will go and watch the other meets. I'll sit at home and I'll just keep hitting refresh on the computer," Hilltoppers coach Carlos Fuentes said Tuesday. "To each their own, but I'd rather just know from the privacy of my own home."
