State Rep. Timothy L. Schmitz, R-Batavia, issued the following news release:
State Rep. Timothy Schmitz, R-Batavia, has officially been asked to continue his tenure as deputy minority leader for the Illinois House of Representatives. “It is an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of the 65th District,” Schmitz said. “I am also grateful to have earned the confidence and trust of my colleagues in the House. Frankly, we have our work cut out for us and I’m anxious to get started. Our continued focus in the New Year will be on addressing the state’s tens of billions of dollars in unfunded pension liabilities and implementing reasonable pension reforms. ”
Schmitz was appointed to this position in recognition of his knowledge and leadership as well as his commitment to strengthening the caucus. He had the following to say regarding his appointment; “[u]nder the direction of Minority Leader Tom Cross, I look forward to continuing our work to unite the caucus on issues in which we find a common cause, while encouraging each representative to vote his or her conscience and district.”
What will be new for Representative Schmitz this term is his appointment to the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. He is set to serve as the committee co-chair which is both an honor and a great responsibility. JCAR is responsible for much of the legislative process, including determining how laws passed by both houses will be enacted at the agency level.
Additional committee assignments for Representative Schmitz are: Human Services Committee, Labor & Commerce Committee, Special Committee on Housing, and the Transportation Regulation, Roads, and Bridges Committee.
House Minority Leader Tom Cross had the following to say of his Deputy, “Representative Schmitz will be an outstanding representative for his district and our state on each of the 5 committees on which he will serve; I have great confidence in his ability and look forward to his continued presence in leadership”.
