Man faces forgery, fake ID charges in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES – A Chicago man is being held at the Kane County jail after reportedly using a stolen check to purchase stamps at the post office on Oak Street, according to a St. Charles Police Department report.

Brian Eugene Woodhouse, 54, of the 7600 block of Luella Street was charged Feb. 5 with forgery, a Class 3 felony, and possession of a fake ID, a Class 4 felony.

According to the police report, he wrote a $322 check for six rolls of 100 Forever stamps at the post office at 2600 Oak St. In addition to using stolen checks, Woodhouse used a fake ID, which he told police he bought for $200 in Chicago, police reported.

He reportedly told police he would have gotten about $200 for getting the stamps.

A U.S. postal inspector wanted to interview Woodhouse because he believed the incident might be related to a larger ring of people conducting the same activity, police reported.

According to online records, Woodhouse was being held on $75,000 bail.

St. Charles police noted he is also wanted on a Champaign County warrant for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving with a suspended license.
