Hultgren praises Veteran Emergency Medical Technician Support Act of 2013

U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren, R-Winfield, issued the following news release praising the recent House passage of H.R. 235, the Veteran Emergency Medical Technician Support Act of 2013.

“I applaud Rep. Kinzinger for authoring this important bill and I was pleased to join him as a co-sponsor.” Said Hultgren. “H.R. 235 is similar to the VALOR Act, which I authored last year and which was recently signed into law. These are both common-sense initiatives that simultaneously help our economy get moving and help our service women and men get back to work.”

“With veterans returning to civilian life facing a lack of jobs, it’s vital that we find a way to employ them using the skills they learned during their time in service.”

H.R. 235 would address the problem of military-trained medics being required to enroll in classes they already finished in the military to satisfy civilian licensure requirements. The bill streamlines requirements and procedures in order to assist veterans and determine which military certifications correspond to similar state equivalencies.

The Veterans Accelerated License Obtainment and Recertification Act directed the Department of Transportation and Department of Defense to establish accelerated licensing procedures to assist veterans to acquire commercial driver’s licenses. The VALOR Act was included in the House Transportation bill MAP-21, and was signed into law last year.
