Wage hike won’t help
I’d like to speak to the idea that Gov. Pat Quinn is going to try raising the minimum wage in Illinois, from $8.25 to $10. There are things that you can do. Everything is going to cost you more. If that goes through, there would be fewer jobs for young people and unskilled labor. And you’re also going to have higher costs at the grocery store, at the restaurant, at Menard’s, at Home Depot, every store that you go to. If you go to the movies, it’s going to cost you more for the movie tickets, for the popcorn, for the pop and the candy. Everything is going to cost you more.
So contact Gov. Quinn. You can call his office in Springfield, at 217-782-0244, and I also suggest that you go to his website and email him and tell him not to raise the minimum wage. It is a job killer, and it will raise costs for everybody in the State of Illinois.
Remember when your bill at the grocery store and the tab at the restaurant is higher, you’ll have to pay the higher tax that he already has put into place. It’s going to hurt all the young people trying to work their way through college, junior college or local schools. They’re not going to get a job.
Devastating effect
Yet another governor is attempting to devastate Illinois. Small businesses cannot afford the $10 minimum wage he is proposing. That is absurd. There will be fewer employees, cuts in service, and prices will go up to compensate.
Businesses are moving away from Illinois daily. No new businesses will come in with this minimum wage. They will go to other states that abide by the federal level of $7.25. If you cannot live on that, get a second job, like so many other people are having to do.
The world of Lauzen
My sympathies to the Chronicle, you’ve walked into the world of Lauzen and how he has behaved as a public official for many years. I knew this pettiness would come forth, and this is classic Lauzen.
Lauzen criticism
Kane County Chairman Lauzen is attempting to become the dictator of Kane County. Recently, his nose was out of joint when the board voted down a deputy to help with his job. Didn’t he realize when he ran for this position that it’s a great deal of work? Or was he interested in getting another pension? I’m sorry I ever voted for him. And in his recent communications, his attitude is becoming smug and condescending.
Keep snow out of space
Hear ye, hear ye, all you truck drivers who plow snow, please do not put all the snow in the handicapped parking place. The handicapped people use the handicapped parking place. Please do not put all the snow in the handicapped parking places.
Help for Fourth fireworks
Now is the time for all Fox Valley residents who enjoy Batavia’s Fourth of July fireworks to step up and send donations, so that this process can continue. There is an article in the Chronicle stating that if they don’t raise $40,000, there’s a good chance we will no longer have the Batavia fireworks. This is something we all look forward to, and it’s time now to send your donations in and support this cause.
I believe in Jim Oberweis
Two weeks ago, from a caller who criticized Jim Oberweis, I was surprised to see only one response in the Sound Off about Jim Oberweis. I really didn’t know that there was a perfect person out there who could another like that.
I don’t know Jim Oberweis or his family, but I voted for him in all of his elections. I believe in his politics, and if you don’t believe in him, don’t vote for him. Bashing him only makes you look bad.
More like ‘Pawn Stars’
When I spoke about a pawn shop for the Tri-Cities area, I wasn’t talking about a hardcore pawn shop where we could take our stolen goods. I was thinking more of “Pawn Stars,” where we’d have a place to sell our treasures and go shopping. That’s what I was talking about. We could use one in this area.
Be more considerate
I’m calling about your paper on page 14 on Wednesday, it says, “Monsignor to leave church.” Don’t you think you could have been more considerate and said, “Monsignor to be assigned to another parish.” This is terrible. It sounds like he’s leaving the Catholic church.
A happy little old lady
Just wanted to tell you what a wonderful experience this little 86-year-old lady had at the Jewel on Saturday, Feb. 9. A nice young man came up the aisle with a single red rose and presented it to me and said I reminded him of his mother. What a wonderful experience, and it just made my day. Thank you so much, whoever it was. It made a little old lady very happy.
Time for a change
It is with a breath of fresh air that there are new candidates for the Batavia City Council. It is not that they have not done a good job, but rather they have been in office so long. There comes a point where every organization needs a change. Thirty years is too long to remain in office. The city needs a change in leadership.
