Deadline extended for St. Patrick's Parade entries

ST. CHARLES – Those wishing to participate in the St. Patrick’s Parade have until the end of February to submit their applications.

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership has extended the parade entry deadline to Thursday because of increasing interest. Submissions originally were due this week.

With this being the partnership’s first year organizing the annual parade, Executive Director Lynne Schwartz said it wanted to ensure that interested parties had the updated information.

“We certainly don’t want to leave anyone out,” she said, noting people have continued to call about the event.

The parade, which marches down Main Street from Sixth Street to Fourth Avenue, is set to begin 2 p.m. March 16.

Participants may include businesses, politicians and nonprofit organizations.

The fee is $250 for businesses and political entries and $125 for partnership business members.

There is no charge for nonprofit entries.

In addition to the entry form, applicants must obtain a certificate of insurance and sign off on the rules and regulations.

Forms are available at www.downtownstcharles.org/stpats and must be returned to the partnership office, 2 E. Main St.

Schwartz said she is excited by the lineup so far. It has a range of entries, including a great number of bands, she said.

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership also welcomes parade volunteers. Jobs include parade marshals, pacers and banner carriers, Schwartz said.

“We can always find a place for someone,” she said.

Also on March 16, the St. Charles Veterinary Clinic is sponsoring a Deck Out Your Lucky Dog contest, and decorated dogs will be invited to walk in the parade. The Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., will host a dance show featuring area dance troupes beginning at 10 a.m.
