ACS, Winnebago boys hoops know each other away from floor

Playing in its eighth sectional in 10 seasons, the Winnebago boys basketball team enters today's 2A Byron Sectional semifinal with a healthy recent history against Aurora Christian.

So what if most of it has come away from the hardwood?

The Eagles defeated the Indians in the 3A state football quarterfinals in the past two seasons en route to successive state championships. The margins of victory both were 35 points, leaving Winnebago motivated before flipping the script – and the sport – with a 70-57 boys basketball victory at Aurora on Jan. 29.

Guard Jacoby Posley, one of the football team's many options in a deep rushing attack, tallied a team-high 24 points for the Indians, who outscored the Eagles, 27-21, in the fourth quarter.

Winnebago enters play at 29-0, while Aurora Christian is 19-11. The Indians also defeated Marmion earlier this season.
