Sycamore boy, 11, dies in Virgil Township crash

An 11-year-old Sycamore boy died at Kishwaukee Community Hospital after being involved in a four-car crash on Route 64 in Kane County, authorities said.

Matthew Ranken was riding in the backseat of a 1999 Cavalier driven by his brother, Nicholas Weber, 21, of Sycamore, authorities said. The Cavalier had been driving west on Route 64 near Peplow Road about 7:30 p.m. when it stopped for traffic backed up because of a crash about a mile away, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

A 1999 Ford Expedition, driven by 28-year-old Benjamin Black of Sycamore, crashed into the back of Ranken's stopped Cavalier, pushing it into a Buick Lucerne, police said. The Lucerne went into the shoulder and the Cavalier struck a Hyundai, police said.
