“ Medicaid is one of the biggest areas of the budget and one that Republicans worked in a bipartisan manner to reduce costs the past two years. The fracking proposal is another example where bipartisan efforts have led to opportunities for job creation and the best environmental protections in the country,” said Fortner.
Fortner added “Something that was very interesting to me was last month the governor’s speech paid tribute to colleagues in the General Assembly for positive legislation and pension solutions but today he addressed my idea as his own about moving the pension note payments directly into the unfunded pension liability. As with Medicaid and fracking, I hope that the governor sees the value from getting all sides and both parties at the table for the budget discussions as well. But like those examples it has to be an honest and open discussion to get a plan that lives within the state's means.”
