You say old, we say vintage. You say garbage, we say garage sale!
Last year’s Geneva City-Wide Garage Sale was so popular, we are doing it again – with a few enhancements.
Registering is easier. Visit www.primegaragesales.com/geneva.html to sign up for the 2013 sale, which will take place April 26 and 27. For a nominal fee, the Geneva Chamber of Commerce will take care of all advertising and signage, as well as an online map and printed map, which will be handed out to key locations in Geneva. If you prefer to pay with cash/check, download the form at www.genevachamber.com. Early-bird pricing is good until April 12.

Can you dance, sing, play an instrument or juggle? Do you do something better than anyone else? Then Geneva’s Got Talent is looking for you.
Auditions are set for May 18 for the first 75 who register. Judges will choose semifinalists to perform on June 19 during Swedish Days. Judges’ votes – combined with Facebook votes – will carry those to the finals for a chance to win a $1,000 cash prize. Finalists will perform June 22 on the Central Stage.
Forms and rules are available at www.genevachamber.com/swedishdays.html.

I couldn’t end this column without a peek at the Swedish Days Festival presented by Cadence Health. This year’s fest is set for June 18 to 23. Yes, it is still 14 weeks away, but planning for six days of excitement started many weeks ago. Entertainment is booked. Favorites are returning, and of course there will be a flurry of new activities, too.
A much anticipated event each year is the grand parade, always an eye- and ear-popping experience. It is truly a hometown parade because of all the wonderful community support and participation. You can be a part of the fun, too! It’s free and applications are available at the above link.
Swedish Days also includes one of the largest music competitions in the state, the 43rd Granquist Music Competition. Carrying on the tradition, members of the Granquist family coordinate the competition. This year’s competition takes place June 22 at Geneva High School.
To view the brochure, rules and regulations – and register online – visit www.genevachamber.com/granquist. To receive an application by mail or for payment assistance, please call the Geneva Chamber at 630-232-6060.
Watch for more information about this six-day extravaganza in Geneva businesses, on our website and on our Facebook page “Geneva, IL – Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.” Our Facebook page is always changing – “like” it today, so you don’t miss any happenings tomorrow.

The aforementioned are just a few ways to become involved in things the Geneva Chamber does. Volunteering for our festivals is yet another way. There is a fit for every interest, every age and every time commitment.
Interested? Drop an email to email@example.com. It’s fun, rewarding and an excellent way to meet new people.
I always say, if you like to live here, you will love to volunteer here!
