Saturday's Prep Roundup: Batavia baseball stays hot, beats Marmion

BATAVIA – The Batavia baseball team continued its hot start Saturday with a 5-3 nonconference win against Marmion.

Catcher Dino Simoncelli doubled twice and drove in three runs and Micah Coffey, Robbie Bowman and Jeremy Schoessling each had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs (4-0).

Austin Shanahan, Jacob Piechota and Coffey – who threw a scoreless seventh inning – combined for the Bulldogs' on the mound.

Sophomore Edgar Sanchez led off the game with a home run for Marmion (1-2).

West Aurora 9, Geneva 7: At Aurora, Dan Berendt had three hits and three RBIs but starting pitcher Max Novak and the Vikings were unable to overcome a five-run bottom of the first for the Blackhawks. Bobby Hess tripled for Geneva (3-2).


West Chicago 3-1, St. Charles East 2-11: At West Chicago, East (3-1) notched a split against West Chicago. Katie Kolb smacked three hits in the Game 2 win for the Saints while teammate Lexi Perez added two hits and scored three runs.


Geneva 1, O'Fallon 0: At O'Fallon, Amanda Lulek scored off a Megan Kozlow assist and Sam Hauser made four saves for victorious Geneva (3-1).

Downers Grove South Invitational: St. Charles North ripped Lincoln-Way Central, 8-0, behind two goals apiece from Jenny Barr and Alyssa Brandt. Natalie Winkates, Alex Gage, Ashlyn Walter and Sophie Pohl also scored for North (4-1).

Rosary 3, Oswego East 0: At Aurora, Taylor Gibson scored two goals and had an assist while teammates Haley Kilbride (two assists) and Quincy Kellett (goal) also stirred the offense for the Royals (1-1-1), who got 13 saves from goalkeeper Lauren Frasca.


Rolling Meadows Quadrangular: Geneva swept Elgin, Rolling Meadows and Zion-Benton, winning the Rolling Meadows and Zion-Benton matches by a 4-3 score. The Vikings' Nila Kannankeril and May Ritsiri went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles.
