While the new Cougars-Cubs partnership rightly resonated as big news in these parts, several other Midwest League clubs signed player-development contracts with different teams during the offseason.
One of them will be on display during the first series of the season, as Quad Cities – now aligned with the Houston Astros – visits Fifth Third Bank Ballpark for three games beginning Thursday.
Quad Cities spent the past eight seasons as a St. Louis Cardinals farm club. Previously, the River Bandits had been a Cubs affiliate from 1946-47 (Three-I League) and 1979-84 (MWL).
Other new partnerships include those in Beloit (Twins to A's), Burlington (A's to Angels) Cedar Rapids (Angels to Twins) and Peoria (Cubs to Cardinals).
