East softball still trying to weather Storm

One of South Elgin's 14 softball victories last season came at the expense of St. Charles East.

The Saints enjoyed a 20-win campaign, including two victories against perennial power Fremd.

When the Storm topped the Saints again on Wednesday, East coach Kelly Horan admitted something didn't add up.

"They've got our number," Horan said of her team's Upstate Eight Conference crossover foe. "There's no doubt about it."

South Elgin is off to a 6-2 start and will get a crack at surging St. Charles North later this week. Veteran Storm shortstop Kara Rodriguez, a four-year varsity player, said teammates only enjoyed the challenge of facing the Saints.

"Anything can happen. It doesn't matter from the year before," Rodriguez said. "New teams, so you've just got to come out strong, no matter what."
