Barney likely wouldn't rehab in Geneva

Cubs manager Dale Sveum told reporters Tuesday that second baseman Darwin Barney (cut on left knee) will be sent on a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Barney's location has yet to be determined, Sveum said, but if Barney lands with Class-A Kane County, he would join a Cougars team in the midst of a seven-game road trip to Wisconsin and Beloit. The Cougars conclude a season-opening seven-game homestand Wednesday.

Barney is expected to join the Cubs next Tuesday (April 16) against the Rangers.

He visited Fifth Third Bank Ballpark as part of a Jan. 17 Cubs Caravan visit.
