A phalanx of school buses lined the Fifth Third Bank Ballpark parking lot this morning, a harbinger of the first Ozzie's Reading Club Day of 2013.
We the media have yet to conjure a lastingly clever nickname for these days. A colleague once dubbed the Cougars' handful of weekday summer day camp matinees "Skittles Days" in a nod to the various pockets of brightly-colored T-shirts in the crowd. Naturally, that stuck.
Am curious to see how baseball-savvy this group is. So many times, the students simply scream at Ozzie's every movement while yukking it up and munching on school-compensated cotton candy. Two seasons ago, however, I was pleasantly surprised when the kiddos booed a leadoff homer from the opposing team.
It's not the greatest day for hooky, but from relays of the radar accounts, there should be window to get the game in.
