WHEATON – St. Francis pitcher Jason Sullivan shined throughout Monday’s Suburban Christian Conference victory against Marmion, throwing a complete game while going 3 for 4 at the plate in the Spartans’ 5-2 win.
“It was an all-around day for him,” Spartans coach Rich Janor said. “He was very efficient, had a lot of quick innings, a lot of one-pitch out kind of situations. And he was our leading hitter at the plate, so a nice individual effort for him.”
Sullivan needed less than 80 pitches to defeat the Cadets (4-4, 1-1 SCC). He paced St. Francis (5-5, 3-1) by holding Marmion to four hits while striking out six and walking three.
Jake Esp pitched the first four innings for Marmion, which scored twice in the first inning. St. Francis’ Josh Croci had two hits and three RBIs. The Spartans scored four times in the sixth.
St. Charles North 5, Metea Valley 2: At St. Charles, Cory Wright struck out 10 and walked one in 62/3 innings to lift North (6-4, 2-2 UEC). Sawyer Chambers recorded the final out to get the save, while Kurt Barbeau’s 3 for 3 day included a solo home run.
South Elgin 8, Geneva 3: At Geneva, Geneva was done in by eight errors behind starting pitcher Andy Honiotes (0-3), who struck out 10, walked three and allowed eight hits and three earned runs. Bobby Hess went 2 for 3 with a home run for Geneva (4-5, 1-3 UEC River).
Aurora Central Catholic 8, Immaculate Conception 3: At Elmhurst, ACC’s Matt Miller went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Matt Rahn also had three hits for ACC (8-1, 4-0 SCC Gold). Andrew Bruss (3-0) pitched the complete game for the win.
St. Charles East 6, Naperville North 1: At Naperville, Olivia Cheatham sparked 7-3 East with a 4 for 4, two-RBI day. Olivia Lorenzini added two hits for the Saints, who cruised behind Alex Latoria’s three-hitter.
Kaneland 1, West Aurora 0: At Aurora, Anissa Becker pitched 61/3 strong innings before Ellissa Eckert finished the shutout for Kaneland (7-1). Lanie Callaghan’s two-out single in the fourth plated the game’s lone run.
Montini 12, Rosary 2 (5 inn.): At Aurora, Rosary (2-4, 1-2) was walloped by SCC foe Montini. Sam Phelps doubled for the Royals.
Burlington Central 7, Streamwood 3: At Streamwood, winning pitcher Brooke Gaylord added two hits and a three-run home run for 9-1 BC.
St. Francis 7, Immaculate Conception 2: At Plunkett Park in Elmurst, Aly Germanos tripled and scored twice for St. Francis (6-1) during a three-hit day.
Wheaton Academy 4, Marian Central 1: At Woodstock, junior pitcher Michelle Ridderhoff pitched a complete game and Marissa Gagliano notched three hits for Wheaton Academy (2-2, 2-0 SCC Gold).
St. Charles East 3, Glenbard North 0: At St. Charles, Carly Pottle tallied a pair of goals for East (7-1-1), while Kendra Sheehan recorded the shutout.
Geneva 15, Larkin 0: At Geneva, the host Vikings (23-3, 3-0) swept the UEC River match, including dominant wins at No. 1 doubles (Nicole Schneider and Suchada Ritsiri) and No. 2 doubles (Ann Green and Melanie Burkhardt).
St. Charles East 12, Streamwood 3: At St. Charles, East’s top singles players all cruised to victory in the UEC River match, including Lauren McNally (No. 1), Sam Nitti (No. 2) and Hannah Larry (No. 3).
St. Francis 2, Marist 1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-16): At Wheaton, St. Francis (7-2) prevailed as Patrick Flood (12 kills), Robert Smith (17 assists, nine service points) and Alex Shulski (15 assists, six service points) helped the Spartans pull ahead.
Geneva 99, St. Charles East 47: At Geneva, Mike Bianchina (3,200 meters) and Kyle McNeil (discus) were among Geneva's event winners. East won relay titles in the 4x800 and 4x400.
Geneva 93, St. Charles East 53: At Geneva, Hannah Davison (triple jump) was among the event winners for Geneva, while East's Torree Scull won the 3,200 meters.
