Radio host Casey Kasem asking $42 million for estate

Nothing like an aerial view of a heart-shaped pool and a sprawling 2.4-acre estate to realize what you’re walking away from. But if Casey Kasem and wife Jean get $42 million for their Los Angeles mansion, they’d have no reason to turn back.

As the first “American Top 40″ host and Shaggy in “Scooby-Doo,” Kasem has earned his celeb status for his notable radio and cartoon voices over the past four decades. It wasn’t until 2004 that Ryan Seacrest succeeded Kasem as the host of the weekly AT40 countdown.

In 1980, Kasem married Jean, who played the dim-witted wife of Nick Tortelli on “Cheers.” While living in the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Kasem reportedly bought the 8-bedroom home at 138 N Mapleton Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90077 for her in 1989.

The gated estate was built in 1954, though its classic revival influences are apparent. A front door framed by two stone lions leads into a round foyer with a white Greek statue in the center. Moving into the English-style library, floor-to-ceiling book shelves and an antique chandelier set the tone.

The bathrooms and pool, though, are perhaps the most over-the-top features. With what looks like one endless piece of marble wrapping around a whirlpool tub and shower, the master bath makes a monochromatic statement. A fur coat thrown over a chair also alludes to the room’s luxurious taste.

Outside, a spacious patio and lawn frame a custom-built pool in the shape of a heart. The property also has a tennis court, guesthouse, motor court, 2 garages and several gazebos.

If Kasem gets $42 million for the 12,000-square-foot estate, the buyer can expect an estimated mortgage payment of $148,135 a month. This is assuming 20 percent down on a 30-year fixed mortgage.

While this price is 2,655 percent more expensive than the median home price for Beverly Glen, Kasem is taking his signature sign-off to heart: “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.”
