Batavia man guilty of sex abuse

ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – A Batavia man Friday was found guilty of having sexual contact with a young child he knew.

Juan Olmedo Torres, 26, was found guilty by circuit judge John Barsanti of one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a felony. Torres waived his right to a jury trial.

Between June 12, 2011, and Aug. 19, 2012, Olmedo Torres had sexual contact with the victim, whom he knew, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. The victim was 5 years old at the time.

Torres will appear again in court May 30. He could receive a sentence of probation, or three to five years in prison.
