Autistic adult located

ELGIN – A 24-year-old autistic man has been located.

The Elgin Police Department would like to thank the community for its assistance in finding Terrence Ivery. He was located late Thursday when he showed up safe at a relative’s home in Chicago, according to a news release.

The Elgin Police Department would like to specifically thank the many volunteers from the Hanover Township Emergency Services Unit, Illinois-Wisconsin Search and Rescue Dogs, the Elgin C.E.R.T. program and other local C.E.R.T. programs. The search utilized more than 50 volunteers for the 10-hour search. The assistance provided by the Bartlett, Hanover Park, and Streamwood police departments assisted in getting the word out through reverse 911 calls, media releases, and social media postings, which was instrumental in directing the search and providing leads, states the release.

The Elgin Police Department offers a program to residents called “Family Finder.” Individuals who have the propensity to become disoriented or lost are entered into a database containing their name, photograph, and other pertinent information. In the event a family member is lost or found, department staff will utilize the "Family Finder Program" to locate a photo and identifying information about the participant in an effort to expedite the reunion process.  Individuals wishing to sign up a loved one may do so online through the police department website at www.cityofelgin.org.
