Saturday's Prep Roundup: St. Charles East, Batavia, Geneva baseball earn sweeps

ELGIN – The St. Charles East baseball team used a pair of excellent pitching performances to sweep Elgin on Saturday, 5-0 in Game 1 and 3-1 in Game 2.

In the first game, starting pitcher Nick Huskisson (5 innings, one hit) and reliever Mike Boehmer combined on the one-hitter. 

Isaac Nimick (two RBIs), Jack Dellostritto, Brian Sobieski and Brannon Barry each had two hits to pace the offense.

The Saints (9-5, 7-2 UEC River) then received six innings of shutout ball in the second game from Troy Dykhuis, who struck out 11. Barry picked up his second RBI of the day on a single in the second game.

East committed only one error in the doubleheader.

Batavia 10-4, Larkin 5-2: At Batavia, Micah Coffey had five hits on the day and Laren Eustace went 2 for 3 with a home run in Game 1 as the Bulldogs (13-2, 7-2 UEC River) swept Larkin. Batavia's Luke Horton threw the complete game in Game 2.

Geneva 7-12, Streamwood 0-6: At Streamwood, Jordan Touro threw a one-hitter for Geneva in the first game while Bobby Hess went 4 for 5 and hit for the cycle in the second game for the Vikings (7-7, 4-5 UEC River). Freshman Nick Derr triple and doubled twice for the Vikings in the Game 2.

Legends Classic: Aurora Central Catholic saw its winning streak swell to 15 games with wins against Woodland (6-0) and Marquette (10-6). Matt Miller went 4 for 4 with a double against Woodland.

SOFTBALL

Oswego 8, Rosary 4: At Oswego, Jessica Wade went 2 for 3 with a home run but Rosary (3-5) was unable to dig out of a 6-0 hole after the second inning.

GIRLS SOCCER

Naperville Invitational: Geneva knocked off Conant, 3-1, as Amanda Lulek supplied a goal and an assist. Megan Kozlow and Mary Landry also scored the the Vikings (6-7). The Vikings won their group and were one of eight teams to advance in the event.

Kaneland 8, IMSA 1: At Aurora, Brittany Olson scored three goals and had an assist and Emily Chapman added a pair of scorers for Kaneland (5-4-1).

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Addison Trail Invite: St. Charles North won the invitational title to take its third tournament championship of the season. Jon Orech (31 kills, 23 digs), Kevin Beach (29 kills, 24 digs), Jack Harbaugh (25 kills, six digs) and Ryan Dal Degan (51 digs) led the North Stars.

TRACK AND FIELD

Peterson Prep Invitational: The host Kaneland boys won the meet behind three victorious relays, easily outpacing runners-up DeKalb. Burlington Central finished fourth and Geneva came in sixth.

Walther Luther Invite: Aurora Central Catholic won the boys side of the invitational, as Joey Perez won the long jump (18-06) and came second in the triple jump to St. Francis' Adam Izewski (38-06). The Chargers' Colin Hendrick won the high jump in 5-10. The St. Francis boys finished third.

On the girls side, St. Francis was runners-up to victorious Walther Lutheran and ACC took third. St. Francis' Amanda Nunley won the 100 hurdles in 16.30 seconds.

Oregon Invitational: The Burlington Central girls team won the 14-team event behind a meet record 800-meter run from Kayla Wolf (2:18.69).

BOYS WATER POLO

St. Charles North 12, Lincoln-Way West 6: At New Lenox, Collin Bawolek made 17 saves to lead the North Stars (10-11-1).

GIRLS WATER POLO

St. Charles North 9, Lincoln-Way West 3: At St. Charles, Nicole Guyett scored five goals and Sarah Stern scored two goals and had two assists for North.
