New look at time-honored rivalry

Monday marked the first time Batavia's Lupe Castellanos observed the Batavia-Geneva softball rivalry as a varsity head coach.

A longtime former assistant before taking over for Ashley Szymski entering the 2013 season, Castellanos noticed a difference, he said.

"You know, it's a little bit more intense, the rivalry. Batavia-Geneva, it's always one of the bigger matchups," Castellanos said. "That's one of the games the girls look forward to all year, trying to come out and get a victory. It's just a little bit more intense at the varsity level, and especially now being the head coach."

Check out Tuesday's Chronicle for more on the Vikings' 9-4 road win.
