Maras will be next Kaneland High School principal

MAPLE PARK – Jill Maras will be the next principal of Kaneland High School. Maras will replace Chip Hickman, who is leaving to become an assistant superintendent in Rockford.

Maras will begin her new position on July 1. She will begin her contract at a salary of $120,000, plus benefits.

Superintendent Jeff Schuler announced the appointment at Monday night's District 302 school board meeting.

"We are thrilled that Jill will be the principal at Kaneland High School," he said.

According to a news release issued by the school district, Maras was selected from a pool of 38 applicants. She has spent the last two years as assistant principal for curriculum and instruction at Kaneland High School. She also has served as a district special education coordinator, and she previously was a special education teacher at Kaneland.

In addition, the district also announced that Paul Mayer has been named assistant principal at John Shields and McDole elementary schools. He will begin his new position on July 1.

Mayer has been a career tech ed teacher at the high school for the past six years. According to the release, Mayer emerged from a field of 21 applicants.
