Wisconsin governor to speak in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES – Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will be the guest of the Kane County Republican Advisory Council at a luncheon today at the Royal Fox Country Club in St. Charles.

The $75-per-person luncheon featuring Walker will not allow media coverage, said a spokeswoman for Lisa Wagner Inc. of Wheaton, who does consulting for the Kane County Republican Advisory Council.

“If it was up to us, definitely yes,” said Meaghan Olsen of Lisa Wagner, Inc.

“But this was Gov. Walker’s staff that requested no press coverage.”

Olsen said the event was sold out with about 150 people expected to attend.

The advisory council’s aim is to support Republican candidates, the party and Republican causes, according to its statement of organization filed in 2004.

Messages left at Walker’s campaign office and with his spokeswoman’s cellphone were not returned.

Walker made national news in 2011 when a bill he supported took away public sector unions’ bargaining rights in an effort to meet a budget deficit.

The bill sparked months of protests by public employees and Democrats, while conservative Republicans and tea party affiliates counterprotested.

In 2012, Walker survived a recall election.
