Cabezas is latest Cougars catcher who can swing

It's a good problem to have in a three-catcher arrangement: any Cougar who has crouched behind the plate this season is connecting when he stands at it.

Willson Contreras (.327 in 49 at-bats) and Chadd Krist (.281 in 32 ABs) already were off to solid offensive starts before Yaniel Cabezas returned from a season-opening stint on the disabled list last week.

Cabezas added to the trend by batting .545 (6 for 11) during a recent road trip to Fort Wayne and Lake County (Ohio).

"He played really well, you know. Caught the ball well behind the plate, ran a good game. It seemed like he didn't miss a beat," said Cougars manager Mark Johnson, a former major league backstop. "He just did a tremendous job and got some really big, timely hits when he came up there. You couldn't ask for anything more. It was incredible for a guy who hadn't played in a month, almost."
