Geneva cautious with battered battery

Miami-bound Geneva right-hander Andy Honiotes has been sidelined with ulnar nerve irritation since April 16. His return this season remains uncertain, Vikings coach Matt Hahn said.

Hahn was more firm that junior catcher Steffen Graham, hampered with a shoulder problem since the summer, would not return.

"Could Andy maybe come back at this point? Maybe. But for precautionary reasons…" Hahn said after Saturday's doubleheader split at Batavia. "Steffen is only a junior. There's no reason to kill the kid. You've got another year of baseball. And the same thing with Andy. Andy's got so much baseball ahead of him. There's no reason to kill him now."

Hahn recently called up a pair of sophomores who have paid quick dividends – catcher Nate Montgomery and pitcher Garrett Davis, who is 3-0.

"It's fun to watch other kids step up, too," Hahn said.
