MAPLE PARK – The Kaneland girls soccer team shut out Sycamore for the second straight day, but this time the Knights scored a goal, defeating the Spartans, 1-0, in Wednesday’s regular season finale.
Kiandra Powell scored off a Courtney Diddell assist in the first half for the Knights (10-4-3, 7-1-2 Northern Illinois Big 12 East).
“We were just passing really well and it opened up and she was able to get the [goal],” Kaneland coach Scott Parillo said. “Courtney made a great pass through and Kiandra was there like she has been lately. She’s been on fire.”
The teams played a scoreless tie the day before in Sycamore.
Wednesday’s match was a rescheduled game from an earlier postponement.
Parillo said he was proud of his team’s conditioning, especially considering the warm weather.
“It’s almost like playing baseball or something,” Parillo said of the back-to-back matches against the same opponent. “It’s just how it worked out.”
