Memorial Day events set in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES – The city of St. Charles will celebrate Memorial Day with official ceremonies and a parade, according to a city news release.

In the release, Mayor Ray Rogina invited everyone to participate to show veterans and their families true appreciation.

“Memorial Day services are a meaningful tribute for those service men and women who have given us so much,” he said in the release.

Memorial Day is May 27. Here is the schedule of activities:

• 6 a.m. – Flag raising at Baker Community Center, 101 S. Second St.

• 6:30 a.m. – Cemetery ceremonies at South Cemetery on the east side of Seventh Avenue north of Madison Avenue; at North Cemetery on the west side of Route 25 north of Johnor Avenue; and at Union Cemetery on the east side of Route 25 north of Stonehedge Road.

• 10 a.m. – Parade, which steps off at Sixth and Main streets and continues to Riverside Avenue.

• 10:45 a.m. – Memorial ceremony at the Freedom Shrine along the river west of the St. Charles Police Department, 211 N. Riverside Ave. In the event of inclement weather, it will be held inside St. Charles Fire Station 1, 112 N. Riverside Ave.
