Tyler Brett Caruso Memorial Concert set for May 23

Published: Monday, May 13, 2013 10:15 a.m. CDT

ST. CHARLES – The 11th annual Tyler Brett Caruso Memorial Concert is set from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Lincoln Park, which is at Fourth Street and Main Street, St. Charles. The free concert will celebrate the life of Caruso, a St. Charles East High School student leader, musician, athlete, and community activist who died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on July 14, 2002, at the age of 17.

Soon after St. Charles High School split into St. Charles East and St. Charles North, Caruso had an idea to bring the community together for an evening of music and fellowship, according to a news release. In the release, this year's St. Charles East representative, Jasper Koenen, said he was "honored to be a part of planning and helping out with this event."

"It’s very special to me to be able to participate because, after reading about Tyler and the things he did for his school and community, I saw many similarities that we have in common," Koenen said in the release. "Tyler was and always will be a ‘Saint.’ ”

The 2013 Tyler Brett Caruso Memorial Scholarship recipients from both high schools will be introduced on stage. A total of 31 scholarships have been awarded from the fund.

The concert is free to the public. Monetary contributions can be made to benefit the scholarship fund (Tyler Brett Caruso Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of St. Charles East High School, 1020 Dunham Road, St. Charles, IL 60174).

In the event of inclement weather, the concert would be moved to the historic Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. For information, call 630-513-6200.
