DeKALB – The Burlington Central softball team scored two runs in the seventh inning Monday to knock off DeKalb, 5-3, for a nonconference win.
An RBI sacrifice fly by Emily Kisch and an RBI double by Lauren King allowed the Rockets (24-2) to pull back ahead after the Barbs (18-6) tied the game at 3 in the sixth inning.
“I thought it was a good win. We made a couple of defensive mistakes, but overall I think we had a nice day against two good pitchers,” Central coach Wade Maisto said. “ ... We’re putting base runners [on] almost every inning and we’re getting something going. Overall, I was happy.”
Brooke Gaylord added a pair of RBIs for Central, which was coming off a Saturday doubleheader split against Moline that snapped the Rockets’ 20-game winning streak.
St. Charles East 3, Streamwood 0: At Streamwood, Haley Beno threw a two-hitter and struck out 15 to lead East (25-4, 14-3 Upstate Eight Conference River) to the win. East’s Olivia Lorenzini went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Batavia 14, Larkin 4 (5 inn.): At Elgin, Katie Ryan went 3 for 3 with a triple and Erin Costigan had two hits and drove in two runs for Batavia in the UEC River win.
Wheaton Academy 12, Marian Central 7: At West Chicago, Wheaton Academy (7-9, 7-6 Suburban Christian Conference Gold) clinched at least a share of the Gold title behind Marissa Gagliano (4 for 5, four runs scored) and sophomores Jessica Bosse and Bridget Koehler (three hits apiece).
Geneva 12, Elgin 6: At Elgin, Dan Berendt went 4 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs to lift Geneva (17-13, 14-11 UEC River) to a three-game series sweep. Bobby Hess also homered and Brock Chenier threw 41/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Vikings.
Marmion 13, Guerin 1: At River Grove, Alex Troop went 4 for 5 with two doubles, two triples and five RBIs, Zach Siwiec homered and AJ Bohr (2-2) earned the win for Marmion (11-10, 8-7 SCC Blue).
Marengo 2, Kaneland 0: At Maple Park, Kaneland (11-15) lost despite Matt Limbrunner’s 52/3 innings of two-run ball. Both of Marengo’s runs came in the top of the sixth inning.
Benet 2, Geneva 0 (25-13, 25-21): At Lisle, Geneva dropped the nonconference match despite Mason Stierwalt’s six kills and Will Hince’s 11 assists.
Kaneland Meet: Kaneland and Batavia were among six teams competing in the event, which was not scored. Kaneland’s Dylan Nauert won the 110-meter high hurdles (15.29 seconds) and 300 hurdles (40.91 seconds) while teammate Marshall Farthing won the high jump (6-3) and long jump (19-111/4).
Marmion 5, IMSA 2: At Aurora, Marmion’s John King won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4, and the Cadets’ No. 1 doubles team of Jackson Rettig and John Graft won, 7-5, 6-1.
