St. Charles East senior Troy Dykhuis faced the minimum in Tuesday's five-inning no-hitter against Larkin, a 10-0 victory that kept the Saints nipping at Batavia in the UEC River baseball race.
Dykhuis walked the Royals' leadoff hitter in the second inning, initially prompting panic in Saints coach Len Asquini.
"Of course as a coach you're like, 'Not this again, leadoff walk,' "Asquini said. "Seventy percent of the time in high school baseball, he's going to score."
Not so fast.
East picked off the runner and Dykhuis retired the next 11 in order to end the game.
"Probably as close to perfect as you're going to get," Asquini said. "Once pitch off the stretch. Pretty amazing."
