Chiefs' Martini relives kids' games

The Cougars' four-game series with Peoria featured two Ozzie's Reading Club matinees.

That ratio added up to at least a few flashbacks for Chiefs outfielder Nick Martini.

Martini, a Prairie Ridge alumnus, recalled attending a handful of field trip games with schoolmates growing up.

"I remember getting those T-shirts and having people sign the balls, so yeah, for sure," he said.

There was a healthy smattering of kids during morning starts Wednesday and Thursday, as most among the combined crowd of 14,758 had yet to receive grade school diplomas. Solid and brisk Cougars pitching assured no child left the game behind before the final out.

"I enjoy when those guys come out," Cougars reliever Nathan Dorris said. "When you get an atmosphere like that in a ballpark, it's always fun to come out and play."
