Martin injury affects OF platoon

Center fielder Trey Martin's recent left shoulder surgery will sideline him for the season, Cougars manager Mark Johnson said.

Martin landed on the disabled list last month after recurring labrum trouble resurfaced. The shoulder popped out during a game, then popped again days later when Martin was swinging.

"It's a surgery that he needed," Johnson said. "It's been popping out pretty consistent right now. It's just something he needed to get taken care of."

Martin's absence has left the club with three regular outfielders – Pin-Chieh Chen, Bijan Rademacher and Oliver Zapata.

Designated hitter/first baseman Rock Shoulders has started in left field about once a week.

"Right now he's the third, fourth guy out there. We're just going to rotate him around – DH and first and playing outfield and mix him up," Johnson said. "He does a decent job out there, you know. He's getting better. He works hard at it every day, he's diligent about his work and he fills the spot out there."
