Saturday's Prep Roundup: Aurora Central Catholic softball wins 2A sectional title

LISLE – The Aurora Central Catholic softball team routed Gordon Tech, 10-3, on Saturday, winning the IHSA Class 2A Lisle Sectional championship.

ACC (12-14) advances to Monday's 1 p.m. Northern Illinois University Supersectional against Peru St. Bede.

Paige Miler was the winning pitcher for ACC, which received balanced offensive contributions.

The victory marks the Chargers' first sectional title in program history.

IHSA Class 3A St. Francis Regional: Host St. Francis (25-4) broke open a 1-all tie in the regional final against Ridgewood with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, featuring a two-run single by third baseman Emma Davis, a three-run double by shortstop Alyssa Fernandez and a two-run home run from first baseman Ali Dittrich. The Spartans went on to win, 11-1, in six innings.

Winning pitcher Maggie Remus allowed two hits for the Spartans, who won their third straight regional title. St. Francis advances to face host Elmwood Park in a sectional semifinal on Wednesday.

IHSA Class 3A Sycamore Regional: Burlington Central fell to Marengo, 4-2, in the regional final. The Rockets close their season at 27-4.

IHSA Class 3A Payton Regional: Wheaton Academy was trounced by top-seeded Montini, 13-1, in five innings in the regional final. Sarah McClain went 2 for 2 with a double for the Warriors (10-11).


IHSA Class 3A Burlington Central Regional: Burlington Central knocked off rival Hampshire, 6-1, for the regional title. Leadoff man Mike Lee had three hits and scored three runs for the Rockets (16-12), while Jacob Schutta pitched a complete game for the Rockets.

Central advances to face St. Francis in a 3A Sycamore Sectional semifinal on Wednesday.


IHSA Class 2A Riverside-Brookfield Sectional: Defending 2A state champion St. Francis was ousted in the sectional final, 1-0, by top-seeded Fenwick.
