Sugar Grove to kick off farmers market

Published: Wednesday, May 29, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

SUGAR GROVE – Vendors in the Sugar Grove Farmers Market are gearing up for another season starting from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The farmers market, which organizer Pat Graceffa said will be run by volunteers this year, is at the Sugar Grove Village Hall parking lot at Route 30 and Municipal Drive in Sugar Grove. The market is open rain or shine and runs each Saturday through September.

She said a company had been hired to run the farmers market for the past two years, but prices kept climbing for vendors, making it unaffordable for some of the smaller vendors to participate.

This year, vendors can participate in the farmers market for a quarter of the price, she said.

Two farmers are already confirmed. Norway Farms out of Norway, Ill., is one vendor, and Graceffa said the vendor will have fresh fruits and vegetables, along with jarred goods such as pickles and honey. Another vendor, Grandma’s Eggs out of Sugar Grove, offers chicken and duck eggs, Graceffa said, as well as meats such as lamb, beef and chicken. A Tupperware vendor also has signed up to participate.

She said some other smaller vendors have shown interest, but they haven’t been confirmed.

Space is still available for vendors, who can attend their first farmers market without paying a vendor fee, as long as rules and regulations are followed.

Vendor applications are available at by clicking on the “Farmers Market” link under the home tab on the upper left hand side of the page.

Vendor prices are $10 a week or $100 a season. Child entrepreneurs can participate for free, and special pricing is available for farmers.
