FEMA offers assistance to those affected by flooding

Kane County residents who were affected by the severe storms and flooding between April 16 and May 5 are eligible to register for federal disaster assistance.

Individual assistance for homeowners and renters can include grants to help pay for temporary rental assistance, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses not met by insurance or other assistance programs. Also, low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration are available to cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.

The deadline to register for FEMA disaster assistance is Tuesday, July 9. The Kane County Office of Emergency Management encourages those affected by the storm to register now.

Individuals can register online at www.disasterassistance.gov. Applicants may call 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. People who use 711-Relay or Video Relay Services can call 800-621-3362. For information, visit the Illinois Disaster website at www.fema.gov/disaster/4116.
