In one week, Geneva’s downtown will become center stage for the 64th annual Swedish Days Festival, presented by Cadence Health. Third and State streets will be exploding with activity through June 23. Whether you mark one day or all six on your calendar, get your Swede on this summer!
June 18 kicks off with a flurry of excitement. Start this year’s celebration with shopping, eating, the carnival, the Quad Power Jump, an ice-cream eating contest and 7th Heaven.
The Geneva Chamber of Commerce is proud to be able to still produce a quality festival each year, and 2013 is no exception. We have expanded Sweden Väst with more Swedish entertainment, activities, art and food. The amazing talents of all ages will again be showcased at Geneva’s Got Talent on Wednesday’s Central Stage. You can help carry your favorite semifinalist to the finals by voting on the Geneva Chamber’s Facebook page – search for “Geneva, IL – Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.”
The word Disney instantly brings smiles to faces. Central Stage will be one of the happiest places as Radio Disney rocks out with an encore performance by season four “N.B.T.” (Next Big Thing) winner, Shealeigh. Evenings of Swedish Days have a history of awesome, free entertainment. Visitors won’t be disappointed with this year’s lineup. From rock to Motown, take yourself on a musical journey.
While Swedish Days is bound to keep you and your family busy, don’t forget to visit the food booths around town. Grab some lunch and enjoy the musical stylings of four different entertainers on the courthouse lawn. Many of the booths donate their proceeds to many charities. Look for the “Geneva Charity” logo, next to the food booth listing, in the Swedish Days brochure.
The festival hosts tons of activities for young visitors. Creation Station has creative crafts and fabulous fun every day. Enter one of the Kids’ Day Parade categories and march in the Kids’ Day Parade on Friday. Afterward, our partner the Geneva Park District coordinates games on the courthouse lawn for young visitors. Your age may not qualify you as a kid, but all ages can defy gravity on the Quad Power Jump or zip line down Third Street. The All American Soap Box Derby debuts in Geneva on Saturday. The carnival offers boardwalk games, roller coasters, rides and an exciting fun house. And it still isn’t over ...
The grand parade has a long history of exhilaration and delight. More than 60,000 smiling faces and waving hands will be cheering on colorful floats, hilarious clowns, prancing horses and the precision of the marching bands. The Geneva Fire Department will step off at 1 p.m. on Anderson Boulevard and lead more than 100 units down State Street to Third Street. You won’t want to miss a minute of this wonderful hometown parade.
The Swedish Days Festival, presented by Cadence Health, offers something for everyone during the six days. But all the fun doesn’t happen magically – it takes hundreds of volunteers who share their time and talents to help produce memories for a lifetime. The Geneva Chamber thanks those loyal community supporters.
