ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – An Elgin man is in custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to charges related to the theft of a car from a St. Charles dealership, according to online records.

Nicholas Seidel, 31, was sentenced last month to 10 years in prison for burglary; 10 years for receiving, possessing or selling a stolen motor vehicle; and seven years for issuing or delivering a forged document.

Kane County circuit clerk records indicate the sentences are to be served concurrently and that he will receive credit for 525 days of time served.

He was admitted to the Illinois Department of Corrections on Tuesday, according to the agency’s website.

On Dec. 18, 2011, Seidel used a counterfeit $20 bill to purchase a beverage at the Walgreens at 2751 E. Main St. in St. Charles, St. Charles police said.

Three days later, authorities said he drove off with a black 2002 BMW from Don McCue Chevrolet, 2015 E. Main St., St. Charles.
