GENEVA – The daughter of Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns was charged with driving under the influence, a week after she was charged with underage drinking, according to police reports.

Florence C. Burns, 19, of the 1600 block of Kaneville Road, Geneva, was charged Sunday with DUI, with a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.08 percent. Both are misdemeanors.

According to court records, Burns’ blood alcohol was 0.216 percent, more than double the legal limit of 0.08 percent. She received an automatic suspension of her driver’s license, records show.

According to reports, police observed Burns park her green 2003 Ford Explorer shortly before 2 a.m. on the 2200 block of Fargo Boulevard, and saw several people exit the vehicle. The officer noted that Burns’ speech was slurred, her eyes were bloodshot and glassy and she admitted both to driving and consuming alcohol.

According to court records, she was released on her own recognizance and is to appear in branch court July 17.

Burns and his ex-wife, Terry Emma, the executive director of the Geneva History Center, both said they would not comment.

In the earlier incident, Florence Burns was one of 10 charged May 25 at a party at which underage drinking was observed.

All 10 were fined $250 and were scheduled to appear in court June 4.
